technical info

As you may have already found out there is a lot of conflicting information on the BMW shift mechanism.
In the next few pages we will analyze this mechanism in detail and attempt to how it works how it can be improved and what are its limitations.

Rather than limiting ourselves to the simple workings of the external linkage we will also include in our analysis the interaction of this linkage with the transmission, car chassis and driver.

We will talk about shift throw, shift pattern, synchronizer wear, shift rod angle, shifting effort, shift knob position and more...

Visit this section of the site often, as we will add more info as well as answer questions.
